Banner featuring Anzu Mazaki (Téa Gardner) and Seto Kaiba from the hit series Yu-Gi-Oh! Text reads "Azure Week 2020"

Azure Week

Azure Week occurs every year between September 16 and the 22nd, halfway between Anzu/Téa’s birthday on August 18 and Seto’s birthday on October 25. It’s a week for Azureshippers to celebrate the pairing of Seto Kaiba and Anzu Mazaki (Téa Gardner).

For 2020, fans on the Azure Week Forum have put together a list of 14 themes to use throughout the week to inspire fanfiction, fanart, fanmixes… or whatever! Some of these are repeats from 2018, but the rest are brand-new, and include a blend of themes inspired by autumn and by music we love.

If you’re interested in participating, all you have to do is tag your work (wherever you post it: Archive of Our Own,, Tumblr, deviantART, Reddit etc.) with #AzureWeek2020. If your platform of choice supports spaces in tags/keywords, then you may find it’s already there, formatted as #Azure Week 2020. No way to tag? Please make sure to reach out to me (I’m @Azurite on most sites; on deviantART I’m @the-sweet, and on Tumblr I’m @anzu-kaiba) so I can showcase your work here on Blue Eyes & Apricots!

Random Theme Generator

You might not be able to participate for all seven days of Azure Week, or maybe you want to try and combine themes into one work. Whatever your fancy, if you’re up for a challenge, try our Random Theme Generator! It displays one of the 14 themes whenever you refresh the page, along with an optional Yu-Gi-Oh! element, such as a season of the anime, the manga continuity, or post-canon during the events of Dark Side of Dimensions. You’re also welcome to ignore the Yu-Gi-Oh! element altogether and write whatever comes to mind for any of the themes, alone or in combination with one another, whether that’s an alternate universe, within the canon of one of the many Yu-Gi-Oh! games, etc.

Themes & Optional Yu-Gi-Oh! Elements

The 2020 themes are:

  • warm by the fire
  • raindrops
  • falling leaves
  • game night
  • something human
  • under the moon
  • reunion
  • excuse me
  • invitation
  • trapped
  • the sound of waves
  • reflection
  • perfect blue
  • right place, right time

Extra Challenges: World/Arc/Season

If you want an extra challenge, here are some optional Yu-Gi-Oh! elements you can try to pair with one or more of the above themes in the same fanwork:

  • Toei anime/Season 0
  • Duelist Kingdom
  • Legendary Warriors/Virtual World (Duel Monsters anime only)
  • Rebecca’s Revenge/Dungeon Dice Monsters
  • Battle City, Part 1 (refers to the events beginning with Anzu’s battle against Step Johnny and concluding with the final duel on the Battle Ship)
  • Noa’s Underwater Fortress/Virtual World Part 2 (Duel Monsters anime only)
  • Battle City, Part 2 (refers to the events beginning on “Alcatraz” island, concluding with the Battle City Championship match)
  • Orichalcos Arc (Duel Monsters anime only)
  • KC Grand Prix (Duel Monsters anime only)
  • The Dark RPG/Memory World
  • Post-canon
  • Dark Side of Dimensions
  • WILD CARD (choose any line you want, or mix it up! You can also do an Alternate Universe or Alternate Timeline)
  • Manga-only

Extra Challenges: Hard Mode

Want even more of a challenge? Try one or more of these ideas:

  • Do the themes in some kind of order. You can follow the order above, or you can do alphabetical order, ordered by the number of words in a theme (e.g, one word themes before two word themes). You can also choose to make a random theme of your choice go in order of the series continuity, e.g., your first theme takes place during Duelist Kingdom, your second during the Legendary Warriors/Virtual World event, etc.
  • Try and create a different kind of fanwork for each theme. For example, for one theme, you can write a fanfic, while for another theme, you can illustrate a short comic. You can also write a script, create a piece of fanart, edit a fanvid, put together a fanmix, write an essay or a piece of meta…. You can even make a list of your favorite fics/art pieces/songs/sites/whatever that seem to fit the theme to you!
  • Use a different POV character, art style or medium, genre, or tropes to go alongside your creation. For example, write “falling leaves” as an Azureshipping fic from Mokuba’s point of view, or try your hand at illustrating “the sound of waves” using only an ink pen.

Submit Your Azure Week 2020 Works Here

Fill out the below form to submit a URL to your fanwork online so we can create a Master List of submissions here on Blue Eyes and Apricots! The URL should go to where your fanwork has a permanent home, e.g., a fanfiction on or Archive of Our Own, fanart on deviantART, a post on Tumblr/Dreamwidth/Reddit, or wherever else your submission might live.

Please make sure the link you supply does not require a login or payment gateway (e.g., Patreon) to access!

If you tagged your work with #AzureWeek202 or submitted to an Azure Week-specific collection (AO3) or Community (r/azureshipping, @azureshipping on Dreamwidth, or the Azure Week Forum on FFnet), you should see your work linked/embedded here after Azure Week concludes on September 22 or shortly thereafter. If you don’t, please fill out the below form; it’s possible we missed something even though it was properly tagged!
